Aims and objectives

Composed of young people who live in Harpenden, the Youth Town Council has the following aims and objectives:

The Youth Town Council will represent and communicate the views of young people of secondary school age in Harpenden and the surrounding area.
The Youth Town Council will work with other organisations within Harpenden and the surrounding areas to promote the views of young people.
Youth Town Councillors shall act as representatives of young people at relevant functions and encourage links with groups of young people.
The Youth Town Council will be involved in the organisation of events for young people and seek to further the understanding between groups of young people.
The Youth Town Council will work to further the understanding of young people by the wider community.
The Youth Town Council will advise on any aspects of the policy for Youth Work in the Harpenden area.


In pursuit of these aims and objectives, the Youth Town Council will not be linked to any political party and will promote local democracy to young people.

All Youth Town Councillors have to either be co-opted by the Youth Town Council or be elected to sit on the Council via elections held in their local schools. Following their election, each Youth Town Councillor can hold their position until they finish Year 13 or equivalent.
