Objectives for 2008

At the Youth Town Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in January 2008, it was agreed that there were numerous projects to be carried over from 2007, some of which are:

bullet point Personal Safety – Continued research into how safe young people feel in Harpenden and the implementation of a personal safety project specifically aimed at young people
bullet point Rothamsted Park Outdoor Facilities – HYTC will continue to lobby St. Albans District Council who is responsible for the maintenance of this area. We want to see a hard basketball court installed between the two hoops near the skate park and improvements to the 5-a-side football court

Environment – HYTC are looking at two areas:

- To encourage shoppers and retailers in Harpenden to cut down on the use of plastic bags and encourage reusable bags

- Renovation of the pedestrian tunnel in Station Road. This area has become dingy and dirty and has been affected by graffiti. HYTC are looking at ways to improve this tunnel for all users

Ongoing objectives:

bullet point To keep the website and notice boards up to date so that we can get relevant information out there to young people in Harpenden
bullet point Summer Sounds ’08 – To continue to promote young people’s music in the district with the third Summer Sounds event
bullet point Fund raising – during 2007 the HYTC collected £372 on behalf of Harpenden Mencap.  During 2008 we will be raising funds for Harpenden Child Contact Centre, a charity based at All Saints Church Harpenden.  A child contact centre is a safe, friendly and neutral place where children from separated families can spend time with one or both parents
